Jenny Perrone

Sabin Codreanu: First of all, congratulations on the amazing performances we’ve seen here. It was a beautiful choreography. What was it like for you to create what we saw today and bring it in front of the audience?

Jenny Perrone: Well, the work is always in progress, and we prepare the girls and boys to go on stage and be ready for their future career. They work many hours a day, and every year we prepare a new performance for them to present.

Sabin Codreanu: What inspired you to create the choreography?

Jenny Perrone: Well, we worked on it for about three months, it depends, twice a week for the choreography and five times a week for technique lessons.

Sabin Codreanu: What do you think this evening, and this experience means for the students?

Jenny Perrone: It will be a moment that we will all remember, because a bond is important for the artistic and cultural growth of our students, and also for artistic culture as a whole.

Vera Landini

Sabin Codreanu: So, how was it for you to perform here at the Bucharest National Opera, and what does it mean for you to be part of this gala?

Vera Landini: Well, it was a wonderful experience and it was truly an emotional moment to have the opportunity to dance in such an important place that is highly celebrated by all of us, dancers. I am really happy about today; we had some wonderful classical and contemporary dance lessons with the teachers. We learned a lot from them, and they learned a bit from us as well about the Italian style. There was, indeed, a coming together of cultures, and I think that this performance also represents a union between Romania and Italy, bringing together Italian art with Romanian art and culture.

Sabin Codreanu: What is it like for you to perform works with a modern theme compared with classical works, such as classical ballet? How do you blend modern and classical dance?

Interviewee: Okay, well, I have been doing contemporary dance and classical dance for a long time, and I have always been passionate about contemporary dance and contemporary art itself. This has opened up a vision of art for me that I didn’t think I could achieve. Also, this union between classical dance and contemporary dance, I think, is the most important thing.

Sabin Codreanu: I saw you also performed at the closing ceremony at the Olympic Games. It was a great opportunity for you, as a dancer, to give a performance that was seen by the whole world. How was that for you?

Interviewee: Yes. It was obviously an incredible, almost unbelievable show. It was wonderful, we were performing for a worldwide broadcast, in front of all the nations. Dancing for the closing of the Olympic Games and the opening of the Paralympic Games was truly an experience that helped all of us grow. It was deeply moving, as it was the one from tonight as well. It is always about a union between nations, a love for different cultures, and accepting what is usually neither seen nor heard.”

Sofia Zattoni

Sabin Codreanu: What is it like for you to perform here today at the National Opera of Bucharest?

Sofia Zattoni: It is a unique experience because we are dancers, and it is our dream to become ballerinas. So being here these days, visiting this beautiful city and this wonderful place, the Bucharest Opera, is truly a special experience. We are definitely very fortunate, because our school gives us the chance to have so many experiences, such as visiting and performing inside the Bucharest Opera. So, we are very happy and grateful for this opportunity.

Sabin Codreanu: I imagine, like most ballerinas, you started ballet at a very young age. What has it been like for you to grow up in the world of ballet? Could you say a few words about how you’ve progressed over time?

Sofia Zattoni: At this point in my life, I think dance has taught me a lot of discipline and how to face many situations in everyday life, because I believe dance is truly an education. It is a life lesson.
